Times New Roman: How it begin?

Stanley Morrison
Citing the Times New Roman, certainly many people who know. This character type is used as the standard typing letters in the world. His whereabouts widely known by people from various professions. However, as many of us who know the history of the creation of letters of this type of Times New Roman?

The letter was designed by an English named Stanley Morrison. He was born on May 6, 1889 in Wanstead, United Kingdom. Stanley grew as a figure that does not have knowledge of printing, but in later life he occupied many important positions in the world. Extensive knowledge in the case of typographical printing recovered since becoming a member of The Pelican Press.

God made him feel his love in a lot of reading religious books, even the first tipografinya paper also goes to church. Once out of The Pelican Press, he worked for Cloister Press in Manchester. Many of the best designs produced while he worked at this company. Again, his work reflects the background of many Catholic churches, it is shown in the illustrations and all kinds of decorations that they use. Because it is so hated the war, making it able to move antiperangnya jailed for four years (1914-1918).

For approximately 30 years (1929-1960) Stanley Morrison, a consultant for the newspaper The Times in London, England. As a consultant, in 1931 he says, "The Times is a newspaper that has had its own customers, we need a character that is not the same as trade in general, letters should be good in principle, but also reflects the strength of the line, consistency, and economical for the Times ".

Because that's what he said, October 3, 1932 was the day of the letter "Times" to the public, because on that day for the first time the newspaper The Times printed using the font itself is called as a newspaper. Morisson Stanley is not the only people who are behind the scenes of the character's success. It also helped a friend named Victor Lardent who draw plans of this letter.

The letter called the Times is quickly becoming very popular at the time, widely used in newspapers, magazines, company annual reports and books. Registered letters to The Monotype Corporation licensors in the United Kingdom, but also registered the license Linotype company in America. Finally, in 1945, The American Linotype Company register the trade name "Times Roman" separately, not as a part of The Times or Monotype. Hence the difference in names to use this letter in the computer. Linotype and enterprises under licensors such as Adobe and Apple Macintosh using the name "Times Roman", while Monotype with companies such as Microsoft licensors under the name "Times New Roman".

In the '80 's era, redesigned Monotype Times New Roman, and claimed that the characters in this redesign better than Times Roman Linotype owned. Because it is not to be outdone, the nearby time periods, Adobe, Linotype also launched a new series of letters the Times, which of course they also claim the new characters better than Monotype's letter. In fact, most or perhaps all users of this letter will not be aware of the difference between them, even though the letters are printed very clearly with size 10 pt in high resolution 300 dpi ..
